After a football career that began at Chicago’s Mt Carmel High School and took him to the Miami Hurricanes and then the Cleveland Browns Al came back to Chicago where he began a career in the steel industry. After serving at many different levels in the business he left an established position at a large service center to chase a vision he had of owning his own company. In 1975 he and his wife Nancy opened Northern Steel Industries. Considered an expert in managing complex painted steel inventories, Ellen has developed relationships with all aspects of this unique supply chain. Ellen has enhanced her steel subject knowledge with an MS in Management and currently in her doctoral work centering on the outcomes of private equity management in the manufacturing sector. Understanding the challenges in manufacturing beyond steel sourcing makes Ellen a true steel supply consultant to NSI customers. When not focusing on her steel career, Ellen enjoys spending time with her husband and adult children. Ellen has a passion for the welfare of children and has volunteered with Child Advocates (CASA) since 1992. Currently she sits on the Board of Directors of the State of Illinois CASA.
